Here goes the aquaphobiac, trying to conquer her fear by doing what? White Water rafting! I figured the only way to get over a fear is to actually face it head on. My first experience with white water rafting was a good one. Cruising mostly in class3 (with one class 4) rapids and not being thrown out of the raft is a good start I say! You should have seen me ask a million questions to our lead -- How does the boat flip, what do they do when they get a hole in the boat, what do you do when someone goes into the water .... I guess it was my way to keep my mind occupied so I did not think about the fear of being on a raft and being thrown out of it. If you look at the pictures, I have a grin on my face. I tell you, giggling is a great way to overcome your fear. No, I was not posing for the photographer. While most people only saw my deathly grip on the paddle, I giggled most of the time when I was scared. Some people scream, I giggle. What ever works.
This white water rafting trip was taken on June 20th, 2009 in Upper Kern River. Water conditions were low and the rapids were not that scary. Water was cold but the air temperature was warm. Photo credits go to the photographer Paul from Kern River Outfitters.
